Lauki Ki Barfi

Who could have imagined how the bottle-gourd can become a sweet dish, if you try this recipe you will get your answer. It is tasty as much as it looks in the picture above.

This Recipe could also be called Nariyal ki barfi because of the use of grated coconut which adds a very refreshing flavour to this sweet dish.

My mother had prepared this brafi long time ago and I still remember the joy of first bite. I am expecting the same from you when you try it for the first time, I am sure your family and friends are going to love this recipe. Follow this easy recipe with step by step instructions.

Ingredients Quantity
Lauki / Bottle gourd grated 1 kg
Pure ghee 1/4 cup
Cardamom green 1
Cloves 2
Milk 1/2 litre
Sugar 1 cup
Grated coconut 1 cup
Khoya 1 cup
Orange Food color small pinch
Cashew nuts for garnish


1. Wash and peel off the skin of bottle-gourd and remove the seeds and grate it with the help of kaddu- kas.

2. Heat the wok or pan with ghee and sauté with cardamom green and cloves then add grated bottle-gourd.

3. Cook it on medium heat for about 5-6 minutes or till ghee shows separately. Add grated coconut and stir for 30 seconds.

4. Add sugar and milk and let it cook till the milk is reduce by half .

5. Add food color and cook it on medium heat till all the milk is reduce and mixture is dry.

6. Add khoya and mix it well. Cook it on high heat till it becomes sticky in texture or completely dry.

7. Take a big tray and greased with ghee and pour the mixture. Spread it with the help of spatula and form it in square shape.

8. Let it completely cool and cut it into square shape as shown below in the picture. Garnish with cashew nuts and treat yourself.
