Urad Daal (Black) Recipe

Urad daal is very easy to make and is delicious as well. It is stickier and heavier than other daals, so this is a thick-style dal. Serve with fresh phulkas with some chopped onion, tomato, and cucumber (kheera) salad on the side for crunch.

Ingredients Quantity
Urad Daal black 1 cup
Red Gram(tuvar daal) 1 cup
Onions 2
Tomato 2
Green chillies 6
Garlic 8 flakes
Ginger 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
coriander leaves 2 teaspoon

Method:

1. Wash daal properly and soak in water for 15 minutes.

2 Now put daal into pressure cooker, add turmeric powder , salt , garlic , ginger ,green chillies , tomato , 1 onion  and 5 cup water .

3. Close cooker , bring to full pressure on high heat , reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes.

4. Remove cooker from heat , allow to cool naturally.

5.  For tempering , heat oil in a pan for about 2 minute , add finely chopped onion , cumin seeds , stir fry till golden brown and pour over daal.

7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with coriander.
