This Matar Ghugni gets me pretty nostalgic. Back in the days of our childhood, when there was no much stuff available to munch on, we had this like NamakPara, Ghugni.
Kids these days love the processed chips and other namkeens to binge on. So, it is a good idea to learn to prepare stuff likes the Matar Ghugni so that you can give it to your kids.
It’s way better to have things like these than those seal pack processed food that’s being highly advertised on TV.
Below is the step by step process to prepare this Matar Ghugni at home. Make them for yourself and especially the kids. 🙂
Preparation Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 8-10 Minutes

Ingredients | Quantity |
Matar / white peas (soaked overnight) | 1.5 cup |
Onion, chopped | 2 |
Tomato, chopped | 2 |
Ginger-garlic paste | 1 teaspoon |
Red chilly powder | 1 teaspoon |
Turmeric powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
Mustard oil | 3 tbsp |
Salt | to taste |
Garam masala powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
Potato, cut into half inch cubes | 2 medium size |
Green chilly | 2-3 |
Coriander leaves, chopped | 1/2 bunch |
Water | 3-4 cup |
Method:
1. Soak the peas overnight. In a pressure cooker, add soaked peas, cubed potatoes, chopped onion and tomato, green chilly, turmeric powder and salt.
2. Add red chilly powder, ginger-garlic paste and mustard oil. Add 3-4 cups of water.
3. Close the lid of the cooker, and pressure cook it on a high flame for one whistle, then keep the flame low and cook for another 6-7 minutes. Switch off the flame. Remove the steam from the cooker, and open it. Add garam masala powder.
4. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Delicious ghugni is ready to serve. You can also garnish with lemon juice and chopped onion before serving.
