Here is the recipe of Chana Masala Daal. Every once in a while, I post a recipe of a dal, the simplest form of meal that can be enjoyed with either Chapati or Rice.
Chana Masala Dal can be cooked easily and quickly by following the easy step by step process posted below along with photos. I hope you are going to love it.

Ingredients | Quantity |
Chana Dal | 1 cup |
Tomato | 1 |
Onion | 1 sliced and 2 chopped |
Garlic, chopped | 8-10 flakes, chopped |
Ghee | 4 tbsp |
Cumin seeds | 1 teaspoon |
Salt | to taste |
Cardamom green | 2 |
Cloves | 4 |
Bay leaf | 2 |
Tomato puree | 1 cup |
Red chilly powder | 1 teaspoon |
Turmeric powder | 1/2 teaspoon plus 1/4 teaspoon |
Garam masala powder | 1 teaspoon |
Coriander leaves | for garnish |
Method:
1. Clean, wash and soak the dal for 1 hours.
2. Take the soaked dal in a pressure cooker along with 3 cups of water and add sliced onion, tomato, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder and salt. Close the lid of pressure cooker and pressure cook it on high flame for one whistle, then keep the flame low and cook for 10-12 minutes till the dal is properly cooked. Switch off the flame.
3. Open the Pressure Cooker, dal will look like this (as shown in the image below). Now heat the pan with ghee and temper with cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom green and bay leaf. When the cumin seeds starts crackling add onion.
4. Fry it till onions are light golden in the color. Add ginger garlic paste and Cook for 2-3 minutes.
5. Add tomato puree, red chilly powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder. Cook the spices on low flame till ghee shows separately.
6. Add the cooked spice in the pressure cooker.
7. Add chopped coriander leaves, mix it well. Cook covered on medium flame for 2-3 minutes. Delicious Chana masala dal is ready to serve. Serve hot with chapatti and rice.
