Bitter melon / karela | 6 no |
Onion | 1 |
Gram flour | 2 teaspoon |
Red chilli powder | 1 teaspoon |
Coriander powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
Turmeric Powder | 1/4 teaspoon |
Salt | to taste |
Fennel powder | 1/4 teaspoon |
Dry mango powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
Oil | 4 teaspoon |
Cumin Seeds | 1/4 teaspoon |
Asafoetida | a small pinch |
Method:
1. Wash karela properly and peel them with the help of knife as shown below in picture. Don’t discard the superficial skin of the karela. Then soak in salty water for about half an hour. Heat the oil in pan and sauté with cumin seeds and asafoetida.
2. Now add chopped superficial skin of the karela and onion. Cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Then add gram flour and again cook on medium heat till nice aroma comes from gram flour/besan.
3. Now add dry mango powder, fennel powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt. Add 1 cup of water and cook all the spices on slow heat for about 5-6 minutes.
4. Cut a slit vertically in to the belly of the Karela as shown below in picture. Fill the belly of the karela with the stuffing.
5. Brush the karela with the oil and put in microwave. Cook in microwave at 150 C for about 8-10 minutes.
