This is one of the recipes which can be prepared if you don’t have any plans, or say, you came home after a hectic day and don’t feel like cooking something that’s take a lot of time. This recipe is also best for bachelors who are not inspired to spend more time in the kitchen. You can enjoy Khichdi with raita, cucumber and onion.

Cumin Seeds | 1/2 teaspoon |
Cardamom brown | 1 |
Cardamom green | 1 |
Pepper corn | 1/4 teaspoon |
Onion | 1 |
Garam masala powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
Ginger | 1/2 inch piece grated |
Green chillies | 3 |
Red chilli powder | 1 teaspoon |
Turmeric powder | 1/4 teaspoon |
Salt | as needed |
Green Peas | 1/2 cup |
Method:
1. Soak the rice for half an hour before cooking. Heat the oil into pressure cooker, add onion, green chillies, cardamom brown, cardamom green, pepper corn, cumin seeds and grated ginger. Fry till onions are light brown.
2. Now add green peas and potato. Sauté for 1-2 minutes then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and 1/2 cup water. Cook till oil shows separately.
3. Oil shows separately as shown below in the picture. Now add chopped tomates.
4. Then add 4 cup Water, rice and salt. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook it on high flame for one whistle then keep the flame low and cook for another 7-8 minutes. Switch off the flame. Allow to cool naturally, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with cucumber, raita and onion.
