If you are a fan of having snacks with your evening tea, then here is a recipe of spicy and super delicious Urad dal vada, which is easy to prepare, and super quick as well, once you have soaked the dal for over 2 hours. Grind it and mix it with all the ingredients mentioned in the table and fry it.

And you get something everyone is going to love it with tea or your favourite drink. I am sure you will love this one as well.

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes

Cooking Time: 10-13 Minutes

Serving: 4

Ingredients Quantity
Dhuli Urad Dal (Split white lentils) 1 cup
Onion 2
Pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander leaves 2 tablespoon
Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida/ hing 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Vegetable oil for deep frying

Method:

1. Clean, wash and soak the Urad dal for 2-3 hours. Drain the water, take the soaked dal in a grinder and grind it to make a fine paste. You can add some water while grinding the dal but don’t add more, because the consistency of the batter should be fluffy and thick not too loose.

*To check the consistency of the batter, take a few drops of the batter and put it in a bowl filled with water, if it floats, the batter is good enough. Take the ground dal in a bowl and add chopped coriander leaves, onion, cumin seeds, hing, pepper powder and salt. Mix it well.  (If the batter doesn’t float, keep mixing it with your hand to get the aeration in the batter, check again, keep doing it until it floats)

2. Heat the wok with oil and drop the spoonful’s of the batter in the oil.

3. Deep fry it on low flame till it is crisp and light golden in the color. Do the same with the rest of the batter. Take out the fried vada on tissue paper to get rid of the extra oil. Serve hot with you favorite dip, sauce, chutney, or with Sāmbhar.

4. Enjoy!!
